Top Movie Theaters in Istanbul
Top Movie Theaters in Istanbul
Istanbul is a historical city, thus many of the structures have fascinating stories to tell. Music halls, theaters, and even movie theaters fall under this category. The cinema theaters of Beyoglu, in particular, are worth noticing. And in this article, I'll tell you where to find the top movie theaters in Istanbul. In Istanbul, the best movie theaters are generally found within shopping malls. Street cinemas, on the other hand, are still quite popular among Istanbul locals. Two old movie theaters, for example, can be seen on Istiklal Street, a pedestrian street that runs parallel to Taksim Square. These classic movie theaters are the first on our list.Â
Beyoglu Cinema
Beyoglu Cinema, one of Istanbul's oldest movie theaters, was established in 1989 and has two halls. Beyoglu Sinemasi had one hall with a capacity of 300 seats when it initially opened, and it hosted premieres, chat sessions, and seminars for a long period. Nuri Bilge Ceylan's first film, Kasaba, premiered in Beyoglu Sinemasi as the only copy. Moreover, practically all of Zeki Demirkubuz's, Dervis Zaim's, and Yesim Ustaoglu's films were shown to moviegoers at Beyoglu Movie Theatre. Beyoglu Sinemasi was the first local movie theater to join Eurimages in 1994, and it has always been a strong supporter of independent films, screening over 3,000 films from around the world. It began to have financial difficulties in the 2010s, similar to other historic city movie theaters, and it is currently attempting to stay afloat through an initiative called Loyalty Card, which was launched in 2017.Â
Istanbul's Atlas SinemasiÂ
Historical Atlas Passage is home to Atlas Sinemasi. After the Great Fire of Pera in 1870, an Armenian businessman named Agop Koceyan erected this movie theater as a winter house during Sultan Abdulaziz's reign. After being repaired in 1932, Atlas Pasaji became an entertainment and art center, and the theater hall, which opened in 1948, was the largest in Beyoglu, with a seating capacity of 1860. In 1948 and 1951, Kulis Bar Restaurant and Kucuk Sahne Tiyatrosu, respectively, opened. Atlas Sinemasi has been showing movies on Istiklal Street since 1948, and it has three different halls with seating capacities of 500, 130, and 85. Atlas Sinemasi was transferred to the Ministry of Treasury in 1985, and Turker Inanoglu and Irfan Atasoy are now in charge.Â
Cinema Marmara ForumÂ
Cinemaximum Marmara Forum was the first theater in Turkey to screen 4DX films. With motion chairs and water and wind effects, the hall provides a very enjoyable experience. If you want to go shopping, eat, and attend a movie after or before your movie, you should go to Marmara Forum. This is the greatest option if you're searching for an all-in-one experience.Â
Rexx Cinema
Rexx Sinemasi is one of Kadikoy's emblems, with one of the largest foyer areas among city movie theaters. In the early 1900s, it served as a theatre and was known as Hale Sinemasi until the 1960s. In 1961, it was reconstructed and renamed Rexx after its previous name, Reks. Rexx Sinemasi has a seating capacity of 1100 people and is considered one of Istanbul's most important movie theaters on the Asian side. At Rexx Cinema, you may also watch 3D movies. The Rexx Cinema building is also one of Istanbul's most famous historical places. As a result, you should pay a visit there, either to see a movie or to take a cultural tour through Istanbul's fascinating history!
