Top Museums of Istanbul

Istanbul, as everyone knows, is a city steeped in history and culture. As a result, it has a plethora of museums reflecting its illustrious history. There are dozens of museums in the city with a variety of backgrounds and topics, ranging from toys to battles. If you are visiting Istanbul for the first time, you should not miss out on the museums. Let's take a look at some of Istanbul's finest museums, which cover a wide range of topics.

Istanbul Archaeological Museum

The main building of the Istanbul Archaeological Museum is a Neo-Classical edifice designed by French architect Alexander Vallaury between 1897 and 1901. His structures contributed to Istanbul's contemporary appearance. Gulhane Park and Topkapi Palace are both home to the museum. Because Topkap Palace takes three hours to see, most people depart from the first garden without stopping by this museum, which is located next to Darphane (State Mint) on the route to Gulhane Park. The Egyptian–Hittite Peace Treaty (Kadesh Tablet), often regarded as the earliest written treaty, the Alexander Sarcophagus, and ancient Greek statues are among the treasures housed in this late-Ottoman structure.

Kariye Museum

This tiny church has some of the most magnificent Byzantine mosaics in Istanbul, formerly the capital of the Byzantine Empire and, perhaps, the globe. Regrettably, many tourists depart Istanbul without paying a visit to this tiny church. The Sultanahmet neighborhood is the center of organized city excursions, which overlook this lovely location. The Chora Church's inner and outer halls, however, include large mosaics depicting the narrative of Mary and Jesus. The church's own narrative is heartwarming. In reality, the history of the Byzantine Empire is like to the Game of Thrones series, with many plots, triumphs, and tragedies.

Museum of Turkish and Islamic Arts

In terms of conspiracies and royal conflicts, Ottoman history is similar to Byzantine history. Many Sultans fell victim to similar conflicts throughout the Ottoman Empire's history, which reigned over three continents. The destiny of Grand Viziers, on the other hand, was much worse. Some were executed as a result of military defeat, some as a result of bribe or corruption scandals, and the majority as a result of falling from favor. The building next to the Hippodrome was formerly owned by Pargal Ibrahim Pasha, a high-ranking official. Ibrahim Pasha, formerly married to Suleiman the Magnificent's sister and known as Makbul (the Favorite), was a close companion of the Sultan until he fell from favor and was killed. The Turkish - Islamic Arts Museum is currently housed in the building that was constructed for him.

The Topkapi Palace Museum

Mehmet the Conqueror was an Ottoman Sultan who conquered Constantinople in 1453, bringing a long-held goal of the majority of Muslim and Turkish people to fruition. From an Eastern perspective, the conquest was a huge success, maybe the biggest in Islamic history. From a Western perspective, it is a tragedy and the collapse of the Eastern Roman Empire's last capital. When we look at maps from the period, we can see that the Byzantine Empire, one of the longest-running empires, was reduced to a tiny city.

Because the Byzantine Empire (also known as the Eastern Roman Empire) split from the Western Roman Empire in 395 and flourished for a thousand years before collapsing. This magnificent palace, built on the city's most picturesque hill and the southern gateway to the Bosphorus, served 25 sultans for almost 400 years. Mehmed the Conqueror, Yavuz Sultan Selim, and Suleiman the Magnificent were among the most powerful sultans. You may understand how beautiful and majestic Topkapi Palace is if you envision this wealthy empire stretching over the Silk Road and Spice Trade Routes and exporting to Europe from Istanbul ports.
