Top 3 Universities in Istanbul

Turkey established institutions with a global concept with the introduction of university reforms in 1933. As a consequence of these significant changes, many Turkish academics were dismissed, while European academicians, mostly of Hebrew descent escaping Nazi persecution in Germany, were recruited to important positions and a new curriculum was adopted. These developments herald the commencement of genuine university education in Turkey.

Istanbul, with a population of over 14 million people, is mostly made up of young people, which draws international students to study at one of Turkey's many universities. Istanbul is home to several of Turkey's most well-known universities, including Koç University, Bahçesehir University, Istanbul Aydin University, and Sabanci University. These universities are well-known for their cutting-edge facilities and excellent research programs, especially for graduate students studying engineering, communications, and urban planning.

As of 2020, Turkey has 203 universities, including 10 public universities and 40 private institutions in Istanbul alone. As Turkey's biggest city, Istanbul is home to the country's oldest, largest, and most successful universities. In our list of “The Best Universities in Istanbul,” we will look at some of these higher education institutions that are at the forefront of academic life in Turkey.

There are many great and well-known educational institutions in Istanbul, but this article will focus on the top three private universities in Istanbul. If you're curious and can't wait to find out, let's get started.

Sabanci University

Sabanci University is one of three foundation institutions established by private enterprises on our list of "The Best Universities in Istanbul." The Sabanci Family, one of Turkey's wealthiest families, founded Sabanci University in 1999. Unlike other Turkish institutes, this one is multidisciplinary in nature. Students at Sabanci choose their department at the end of their second year. Students attend courses in a range of disciplines until their third year, when they will major in a certain topic.

According to US News and World Report, Sabanci University is the 13th best institution in Turkey and the 850th top university in the world. The Sakip Sabanci Museum, one of the city's most well-known museums, is also owned by Sabanci University.

Koc University

Like Sabanci Institution, Koç Institution is a foundation university established by the Koç Family, another wealthy Turkish family. This university has offered higher education via seven faculties, four postgraduate institutions, 21 research institutes, and 72 laboratories since its establishment in 1993. Koç University, which has about 6.200 students and 400 professors, is located on a single huge campus on the Bosporus.

Koç University is widely recognized as one of Turkey's most renowned educational institutions. For its scholarship slots, it only accepts the most worthy applicants. Koç University's departments of "Computer Engineering," "Electronic Engineering," "Mechanical Engineering," and "Industrial Engineering" received the highest base points in Turkey in 2019, followed by scholarship programs in "Medicine" and "Law."

Bogazici University

For decades, Bogazici University, along with Middle East Technical University and Bilkent University in Ankara, has been considered one of Turkey's top three universities. Every year, students with the highest marks on their university admission exams are admitted to Bogazici. As a consequence, it is the main objective of Turkey's most successful students. Bogazici resides next to Bosphorus, the best part of life in Istanbul.

In 1863, Dr. Cyrus Hamlin, an American scholar, and Christopher Rheinlander Robert, an American merchant, founded Bogazici University as "Robert College." After more than a century as a high school, Robert College was renamed Bosphorus University in 1971. The name of this school was inspired by the famous Bosphorus, which lies near to the campus.
