KoÃ§ University, which has about 6.200 students and 400 professors, is located on a single huge campus on the Bosporus.

In 1863, Dr. Cyrus Hamlin, an American scholar, and Christopher Rheinlander Robert, an American merchant, founded Bogazici University as "Robert College." After more than a century as a high school, Robert College was renamed Bosphorus University in 1971. The name of this school was inspired by the famous Bosphorus, which lies near to the campus.
