Istanbul New Airport is one of the newest and largest airports in the world, located northwest of the city in the Arnavutköy district. Turkish President Erdogan officially opened the airport (Istanbul Airport) on October 29, 2018, which is Turkey's National Day. On the weekend of April 6, 2019, it replaced Istanbul Atatürk Airport as the main passenger airport serving Istanbul.
The airport is the largest in the world today, the airport can handle 90 million passengers a year. In the future, the new Istanbul Airport will be able to accommodate 200 million passengers annually. Turkish Airlines is responsible for 80% of the total number of flights at Istanbul Airport.
Istanbul's new airport is located on the European side of Istanbul, the second airport of the city is Sabiha International Airport (Sabiha Gökçen Havalimanı) on the Asian side.

Istanbul's new airport is located northwest of the city on the shore of the Black Sea, the national road is a short distance from the airport, making it easy to reach the airport by car.
It will be Istanbul's third airport in the region along Europe's Black Sea coast. The airport is built between Tiyakadin district and Akpinar village on an area of ​​76.5 km2. The airport is built on Çatalca, Göktürk Arnavutkoy Junction, close to Terkos Lake. The location of the airport is very ideal. The distance between the new airport and Ataturk Airport is 35 km, which will be at the bridge connection point where you will reach the most convenient road from Istanbul.
The new airport will entirely replace Atatürk Airport, gradually absorbing its traffic until the old one can be closed and the new one can claim the IGA flight code. The Atatürk Airport will thereafter be transformed into a public park.
There are multiple airport entrances on the Departure level, each designed for a different sort of traveler. Two gates, for example, are the closest to the gates of domestic Turkish carriers. Travelers on overseas flights should use one of the indicated gates, while VIP customers or business class passengers should use another.
How many terminals are in the new Istanbul airport?
Istanbul New Airport has a very large and modern building, consisting of a departure level (Giden yolcu katı) and an arrival level (Gelen yolcu katı). A second smaller station will open in 2025.
The departure hall of Istanbul New Airport can be accessed via seven entrance doors, 1 and 2 for domestic flights (İç Hatlar), 3, 4, 5, 6 and 7 for international flights (Dış Hatlar). If you are flying with Turkish Airlines, you should take entrance 3, 4, or 5. The check-in desks of all other international carriers are easiest to reach via doors 6 and 7.
Smart system for taxis at the new Istanbul airport:
Istanbul Airport will provide a time estimation service from the traveler's home to the airport, and travelers will be notified of the appropriate departure time from their homes and head to the airport with the aim of travel.
Minister Turhan pointed out that the most prominent problem faced by tourists coming to Turkey is taxi drivers, and for this reason, some laws related to them have been put in place at the new airport, including not accepting any driver who does not speak English, and visitors will not suffer from tricks and deception by drivers. Taxis, because the new system forces the driver to display the route he will take electronically through a special device inside the car so that the visitor can choose the route he wants himself.
Torhan added that the number of taxis currently operating at the airport is about 660, and it is expected that the number will exceed 1,000 during the coming period.
The visitor will be able to obtain information related to the taxi registration plate, and he can also pay with his bank card.
