What to Do in Fatih District?

Named after the Ottoman ruler who captured Istanbul, Fatih is a very historical place with its 57 individual neighborhoods covering 17 square kilometers. Although it is usually considered one of the most conservative districts of Istanbul, there are numerous things to do and see in Fatih. Here are the most important things to do in Fatih.

  • Visit Fatih Mosque

Constructed between 1462 and 1470 by Mehmed the Conqueror, Fatih Mosque was the first imperial mosque of Ottoman Istanbul. Even though the original building was ruined by the devastating earthquake over the years, the 17th Century building is as impressive as Istanbul’s Ottoman era. Fatih Mosque is often called a sacred landmark and has a lovely interior with baroque architecture that should be visited!

Hosting Topkapi Palace, Hagia Sophia, and the Blue Mosque, Sultanahmet district will amaze you with its historical sight and important pieces of architecture. However, if you want to see them all in detail, you should take your time. Plus, after visiting the main attractions, it is recommended that you should stop by one of the Turkish hammams. It will make you feel awesome!

  • Stop by the Shops in Markets and Bazaars

One of the other alternatives for you to do in Fatih is stopping by the shops in markets and bazaars. Fatih has plenty of markets and bazaars for tourists and locals such as Grand Bazaar (Kapali Carsi) and Egyptian Spice Bazaar (Misir Carsisi).

Grand Bazaar, one of the largest and oldest covered markets worldwide, is visited by so many tourists every day. It has a deep history with its colorful, chaotic, and fascinating atmosphere. You can find anything you want in the bazaar, from a wide range of goods, jewelry, carpets, ceramics to clothes and food. You do not need to purchase anything, however, the atmosphere is worth seeing because Grand Bazaar has numerous kinds of features for you to stop by! Opened every day except Sunday, it would be a great activity for you to explore Fatih District.
