Turkish Soup in Istanbul
Turkish Soup in Istanbul
In many civilizations, including Turkey, the soup is a popular meal. Turkish food has a lot to offer, but I'm going to focus on some of the greatest soups in Istanbul that you should taste while you're there. My personal favorites are the ten places listed below, and they all feature a variety of Turkish soups to suit every palate! Some are classics, such as "lentil soup" or "kelle paca," while others are strange, such as brain soup.
Hunkar
This restaurant, which has been in operation since 1950, is operated by four generations of family members. The varied menu includes centuries-old Ottoman palace culinary delights, such as three different soups cooked every day.
Shorba
Shorba is a tiny, intimate restaurant that specializes in soups. They have some of the most difficult Turkish soups, such as oxtail soup, that you won't find in other restaurants, as well as international soups like Thai soup with coconut milk.
The soups in Shorba fluctuate with the seasons. Here, the soup quantities are colossal. With only one cup of soup, you'll be satisfied.
Pacaci Mahmut Usta
This restaurant's name translates as "trotter soup master Mahmut," which should give you an indication of what their most popular soup is. Balikesir lambs (considered to be among Turkey's best) are seasoned with buffalo yogurt. To attain the correct balance, this process takes many hours and requires an expert butcher.
Sarihan İskembe
Sarıhan İşkembe, a 24-hour paradise for people eager to fill their bellies with warm soup, is the ideal place to visit after midnight. Sarıhan, one of the most prominent soup restaurants on Istanbul's European side, offers a variety of soups to suit every palate.
Their specialty is "boncuk tuzlama," but they also provide classic Turkish soups including "beyran," tomato, and village chicken soup.
