Gulhane Park in Istanbul

The beauty and history of Istanbul's Gulhane Park are unmatched by any other park in the world. How many gardens may claim to have been the royal gardens?  Gulhane Park can and is!

'House of Roses Park' in Turkish, Gulhane Park is located on the grounds of the Ottoman Empire's Topkapi Palace, one of the old royal palaces. It's one of Istanbul's biggest parks, and you may be amazed at how many there are in this sprawling metropolis. Istanbul's unique mix of old and modern, industrial and natural, may be what makes it so remarkable.

Formerly a garden built on the outside walls of this magnificent imperial palace, Gulhane Park today has an entrance covered by trees that leads directly into the park. As a result of this restriction, Topkapi Palace and its gardens were only accessible by monarchs and people of high social status before the modern era.

Thanks to changes, we can now explore the castle and its magnificent grounds. As an urban park, the gardens were established in 1912 and boast a large number of oak and walnuts as well as a variety of colorful tulips and tiny sculptures that may be seen here and there. There are bear statues in Gulhane Park that resemble Narnia, as well as other forest creatures! In addition to having lots of area to run about, children will enjoy exploring this vast open space, while parents can just appreciate the quiet and serenity. When it comes to couples, Gulhane Park has an aura of romanticism about it.

Visit Gulhane Park

Open all year, Gulhane Park is free to access. On your approach to Sultanahmet from the main street you just stroll in to enjoy nature! In the archway there is a security booth, but other than the odd spot check, there are no official inspections. Just be prepared for a brief search of your luggage. Although you're welcome to bring your picnic inside, remember to clean up after yourself and dispose of your trash properly. This is a beautiful location, and we don't want it ruined!

Tour Gulhane Park as part of a Topkapi Palace visit isn't required, but it is recommended. As you can see from the park, the palace's exterior walls may pique your interest, and you may want to find out what' This is, of course, the palace's gardens, so seeing both will give you a good idea of the history involved with this.
