Hezarfen Airport, which has been mainly serving for general aviation and administrative flights, took its name from a 17th Ottoman scholar Hezarfen Ahmed Celebi who flown from Galata Tower to Uskudar, around 6 kilometers.

The New Airport went public on 29th October 2018. Also; the third airfield of the airport, a state guesthouse, and a mosque were opened in June 2019.
