Ä°stanbul, known for connecting the Asian and European continents, is a very special and remarkable city because of its historical and natural beauties. It is impossible not to admire the mosques and churches of this city, which hosts thousands of tourists every year. Ä°stanbul also is the most crowded city in Turkey. Here, there are some landmarks in Ä°stanbul.
Galata Tower
Galata Tower -was built in 528 by Byzantine Emperor Anastasius- is considered one of the oldest towers in the world. The Golden Horn and Bosphorus Straits can be seen from the tower, which was also used as a fire watchtower in the 18th century. Since it is in the center of the city, transportation is also very easy.
There is also a legend that says you will marry whoever you go to Galata Tower. Therefore, if you go to Ä°stanbul with your significant other, you better visit this tower!
Bosphorus Bridge
The construction of the 1560-meter-long bridge took 1700 days. After that, Bosphorus Bridge was opened to traffic in 1973. The bridge connects the Asian and European continents over the Bosphorus. It starts from Beylerbeyi on the Anatolian side and ends in Mecidiyeköy on the European side.
It is very famous to take pictures in places that see this bridge. Do not forget to take a picture with the view of the Bosphorus Bridge before you leave Ä°stanbul!
Rumeli Fortress
Rumeli Fortress, which was built for the defense of Istanbul on the order of Fatih Sultan Mehmet, is one of the most historical symbols of Istanbul. You can see the amazing view when you look at the Fortress. Besides the natural beauty, Rumeli Fortress was used for many concerts until 2008. The concerts which were performed in the amphitheater were just like a tradition.
After 2008, Rumeli Fortress became a museum. It is like İstanbul’s one of the most important landmarks that you should definitely see!
Grand Bazaar
Grand Bazaar, which is one of the most important landmarks in Ä°stanbul, is a very convenient place for those who love purchasing antique and qualified goods. There are thousands of goods which appeal to every kind of person.
Grand Bazaar has 11 gates to enter. Located in Beyazit, the massive bazaar is like the first shopping mall in the world. Do not forget to visit the Grand Bazaar due to its historical past and amazing stores!
Maiden’s Tower
The Maiden’s Tower, also known as Leander’s Tower, is a small islet at the southern entrance of the Bosphorus Strait. The tower has a rich history dating back to the 4th Century. Even though it is not known exactly when the tower was built, the architecture displays that it belongs to an era around 340 BCE.
Located in the middle of the sea, Maiden’s Tower offers an amazing view for those who love old buildings and historical places!
