The Council of ministers suggested that Ataturk Airport is insufficient in some aspects, thus it was decided that a new airport is necessary. Istanbul Airport went public in the year 2018. With the closure of the Ataturk Airport, the airport has been providing service as the only airport in the European Side of Istanbul since then.
Istanbul Airport includes hotels, residences, business centers, a hospital, a library, a museum, a cultural center, and a fairground. There is also a Kid’s playground at the air-side of departures. It has all you need!
The Station and Flight Procedures
Istanbul Airport has been giving service both for its domestic and international flight passengers through its enormous station. It is possible to access the station from 7 different gates. There are more than 500 comptoir for you to make your check-in and luggage processes. Also, there are 228 passport checkpoints for international flights. It is suggested to be in there before 3 hours from your flight just to be on the safe side. You can spend this time wherever you want, either in the library thumbing through books or in one of the cafes sipping your coffee!
Transportation
It is possible to arrive at the new airport which is located on Arnavutkoy, European side of Istanbul via taxis, private car, buses. Also, there are companies that provide exclusive transportation services.
Istanbul Airport is 40 kilometers away from Istanbul’s most visited place, Taksim. If you want to go there via your private car, you can benefit from the huge parking space, auto washing, fuel stations as well.
